Twenty Students from École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier Honoured for Their Commitment and Achievement
June 17, 2026
Twenty students from Grades 7 to 12 at École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier were recognized during the Allies Recognition Ceremony held on June 15.
Organized in partnership with Centre de santé communautaire du Grand Sudbury as part of the Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) program, the initiative highlights the dedication of students who actively contribute to welcoming and supporting the integration of newcomers within their school community.
Through their empathy, kindness, and willingness to help others, these students foster a welcoming school environment and strengthen their peers’ sense of belonging. Their involvement was demonstrated through various activities celebrating Francophone culture, cultural diversity, and community engagement.
Among the students recognized, Grade 12 student Marie Christabelle Beibro received a recognition scholarship in acknowledgment of her exemplary leadership and her contribution to promoting the Francophone school community.
Throughout the school year, the student allies participated in numerous initiatives that promoted inclusion, diversity, welcoming environments, and Francophone culture. They helped organize the Franco Challenge during Francophone Immigration Week and took part in activities marking Black History Month, including the creation of a collaborative mural celebrating the richness and diversity of the school community.
“We are extremely proud of these students who embody the values of leadership, inclusion, perseverance, and Francophone pride. Their commitment helps make our school a welcoming, dynamic, and inspiring environment for everyone,” said Josée Tremblay, Principal of École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier.
Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord warmly congratulates all the students honoured for their outstanding contributions to their school. The Board also wishes to recognize the dedication of the teachers who support the student allies throughout the year, as well as the Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS). Their guidance and collaboration play a vital role in the success of this initiative and in fostering a welcoming and inclusive school environment.
