When Words Become a Game: Méli-Mémots Brings Together Nearly 175 Students

June 12, 2026

Nearly 175 Grade 3 students from schools in Greater Sudbury, Markstay, and the French River area gathered at École publique Pavillon-de-l’Avenir to take part in Méli-Mémots, an educational and fun-filled activity dedicated to expanding vocabulary and celebrating the French language.

Throughout the morning, students participated in a variety of games and interactive activities that allowed them to discover new words, strengthen their spelling skills, and apply their language knowledge in an engaging and stimulating environment.

The event also provided students with an opportunity to come together in a dynamic and welcoming Francophone setting. Through their enthusiasm and active participation, the students demonstrated that language learning can be both enriching and enjoyable.

The event also benefited from the involvement of Éloi Clément, a Grade 12 student at École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier. As part of his leadership course, he contributed to the planning of the day and served as co-host of the activities. His involvement was invaluable and reflects the leadership and commitment demonstrated by students across Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord.

“Méli-Mémots allows students to explore the richness of the French language in a creative and engaging way. In addition to developing their vocabulary and language skills, students take part in a shared experience that fosters their pride in living and learning in French,” said Nadia Simard, Cultural Facilitator at Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord.

Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord extends its thanks to staff members and volunteers whose contributions helped make this day of learning, discovery, and wordplay a success.
