Three members of Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord’s community were honoured at the Soirée du Mérite Horace-Viau 2026, a gala event organized by Club Richelieu of Greater Sudbury to recognize individuals who distinguish themselves through their community involvement and contributions to the Francophone community. This prestigious recognition highlights their exceptional contributions to education, civic engagement, and the vitality of their communities.

Ms. Hélène Dallaire, a retired drama teacher from École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier, received the Horace-Viau Merit Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to education and the arts. From 1998 to 2008, she inspired generations of students through her creativity, leadership, and passion for theatre. Since her retirement, she has continued to support the Francophone community through her involvement in community theatre and numerous organizations. Her dedication and lasting influence continue to enrich the cultural life of Northern Ontario.

Sami Kaidi, a Grade 12 student at École secondaire Hanmer, received the Prix Jeunesse for his exceptional volunteer involvement and inspiring leadership. Highly engaged in both school and community life, he is particularly recognized for organizing the Nations Day event, a project that celebrates cultural diversity. As a tutor for younger students, a soccer referee, and an ambassador for the Francophone community, Sami demonstrates remarkable initiative, inclusiveness, and commitment to community service.

Marie Christabelle Beibro, a Grade 12 student at École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier, also received Prix Jeunesse for her exemplary volunteerism and leadership marked by empathy and generosity. Always willing to lend a helping hand, she is actively involved in supporting newcomers, individuals in need, and her community. Her mentorship of fellow students, volunteer work, and participation in school and community activities reflect her deep commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those around her.

Through their dedication, leadership, and contributions to the well-being of their community, Ms. Hélène Dallaire, Sami Kaidi, and Marie Christabelle Beibro embody the values of excellence, service, and Francophone pride celebrated by Mérite Horace-Viau and Prix Jeunesse.
