Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord Appoints Sophia Bagaoui as Director of Communications

March 31, 2026

Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord is proud to announce the appointment of Sophia Bagaoui as its new Director of Communications.

With over ten years of experience in strategic marketing and narrative communication, Ms. Bagaoui stands out for her deep commitment to Franco-Ontarian education and culture.

A native of Sudbury and former student of the Grand Nord District School Board, she has led major initiatives at Carrefour francophone, including the expansion of early childhood services, as well as at Laurentian University (Office of Francophone Affairs and National Consortium for Health Education). A dedicated collaborator, she has also contributed to the visibility of key cultural organizations in the region, including Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury and We Live Up Here.

Graduated in journalism and public communication, and holding a master’s degree in human sciences, Ms. Bagaoui combines clarity of messaging with analytical depth. This dual expertise will allow her to support the Board’s strategic objectives while keeping students and families at the heart of every communication initiative.

“We are very pleased to welcome Ms. Bagaoui to our senior leadership team. Her awareness of our communities’ realities and her creativity will greatly enhance our presence across our entire territory, from Markstay-Warren to the Manitoba border,” said Director of Education Carl Dussault.

Ms. Bagaoui, currently on maternity leave, will begin her role in August 2026. Upon assuming her duties, she will lead strategic initiatives for recruitment and retention while promoting the achievements of students, families, and all Grand Nord school communities.

The Board also wishes to thank Marie-Eve Pépin for her work as Communications Director within the Grand Nord executive team. As she takes on new challenges at Université de Sudbury, the Board extends its gratitude for her support during this transition period.

Recognized for its keen sense of innovation and openness to the world, Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord offers a French-language public education of the highest quality in fifteen elementary schools and eight secondary schools in the communities of Markstay, Noëlville, Greater Sudbury, Blind River, Elliot Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, Dubreuilville, Marathon, Manitouwadge, Longlac and Thunder Bay.
