Chess in Action: Over 150 Students Rise to the Challenge!

Sudbury, December 10, 2025 — The Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord brought together more than 150 students today for its Regional Chess Tournament, held at École publique Pavillon-de-l’Avenir in Chelmsford. The tournament welcomed Grade 4 students from schools across the Greater Sudbury area, as well as Markstay and French River.

This system-wide activity, organized by the Cultural Animation team, gave students the opportunity to put into practice the skills they developed in class this fall. Each Grade 4 class in the Greater Sudbury region had the chance to learn strategies and the essential basics of chess through workshops. Congratulations to all those who took part in this enriching system-wide activity!

Focused on critical thinking, strategy, and the joy of learning, this tournament represents an important milestone for students aspiring to advance to the provincial level. In this regard, the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord is pleased to announce that it will host the Provincial Chess Tournament from April 8 to 10, 2026. This major event will once again showcase the talent and dedication of our students.
