A new mandate for the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord political table

The members of the Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario (CSPGNO) held their inaugural 2022-2023 meeting on Friday, November 18. At the meeting, twelve trustees were officially sworn in, three of whom are serving their first term.

The trustees also held an organizational meeting where they elected a Chair and Vice-Chair for the 2022-2023 school year. Ms. Anne-Marie Gélineault, trustee for the Greenstone and Thunder Bay regions, was re-elected as Board Chair and Ms. Francine Vaillancourt, trustee for the Greater Sudbury area, was re-elected as Vice-Chair, both for a third term.

Ms. Gélineault has served as Board trustee since 2006 and as Board Chair since 2020. As a trustee, Ms. Gélineault has served as Chair of the Facilities and Plant Committee and has participated in the Policy and Guildlines Committee, Audit Committee and Education Committee. In addition, Ms. Gélineault represents the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord on the Association des conseils scolaires des écoles publiques de l’Ontario (ACEPO).  Ms. Gélineault is delighted to continue to work on the Board’s priority issues and says to be very fortunate to be at the table where student success and the future of students are at the forefront.

Ms. Francine Vaillancourt has served as a trustee since 2018 and as Vice-Chair since 2020. Mrs. Vaillancourt has worked in the field of education for over thirty years as an educational consultant, teacher and leader in improving student achievement. In her role as a trustee, Mrs. Vaillancourt has served on various Board committees such as the Facilities and Plant Committee, Human Resources Committee, Policy and Guidelines Committee and Special Education Committee. Ms. Vaillancourt is the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord representative on the Association des conseils scolaires des écoles publiques de l’Ontario (ACEPO).  Ms. Vaillancourt is very pleased to be working closely with committed trustees to ensure welcoming, forward-thinking, and inclusive learning environments for all students in the Board.

At the inaugural meeting, Mr. Sébastien Fontaine, Director of Education, took the opportunity to welcome former trustees and new-elected trustees Carole G. Anderson, Rachelle Beaubien and Andréane Chénier. On behalf of the children, parents and staff, Mr. Fontaine thanked the trustees for their commitment and work towards the advancement of French language public education in Northern Ontario.
