A new elementary school in Marathon

It is with pleasure and in collaboration with the Superior-Greenstone District School Board that the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord announces that a new French-language elementary school will open its doors in Marathon. The provincial government has granted funding of nearly $2.3 million to allow for the necessary renovations to accommodate the new school within the Superior-Greenstone District School Board building.

”By investing $2.3 million in École élémentaire publique de Marathon, we’re not just building a school; we’re crafting a brighter future for 95 French-speaking students in Marathon. This funding is a testament to our government’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art learning environments, supporting working families, and enriching the community’s educational landscape” said Kevin Holland, MPP for Thunder Bay— Atikokan.

The Director of Education, Mr. Sébastien Fontaine, adds, ”The Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the Superior-Greenstone District School Board, which has been an exemplary partner for many years in sharing school space to enable us to offer French-language public education in our Northern communities. This time, we will work together for the opening of a French-language public elementary school in Marathon. This is excellent news for the entire community and the students of Marathon. I thank the Government of Ontario for the funding granted to make the necessary renovations to accommodate Francophone students within the new school.”

At the heart of Marathon, the school sharing will take place in Superior Greenstone’s Margaret Twomey Public School building at 21 Chisolm Trail.

Recognized for its keen sense of innovation and openness to the world, Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord offers a French-language public education of the highest quality in fifteen elementary schools and eight secondary schools in the communities of Markstay, Noëlville, Greater Sudbury, Blind River, Elliot Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, Dubreuilville, Marathon, Manitouwadge, Longlac and Thunder Bay.
