21 Years of Music, Dance and Excitement: A Resounding Success for Folie furieuse!

February 27, 2026

Sudbury, February 27, 2026 – More than 325 Grade 5 and 6 students from French-language elementary schools in Sudbury and the French River gathered in the gymnasium of École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier to celebrate the 21st edition of Folie furieuse, a vibrant day filled with music and Francophone pride.

Organized by the Cultural Animation team of Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord, the event allowed students to discover the richness of Francophone music. In preparation, they learned ten songs, recognized the artists, and participated in an interactive quiz. The lip-sync performances, accompanied by dynamic choreography, marked the highlight of the day.

The event welcomed guest judges: Mr. Carl Dussault, Director of Education; Ms. Stéphanie Sampson, Superintendent of Education; and Ms. Mélissa Ouimet, renowned Franco-Ontarian artist. In addition to serving as a judge, Ms. Ouimet delivered an electrifying performance that captivated students and staff alike, strengthening their sense of belonging to the Ontario Francophone community.

We also thank our Chair of the Board, Ms. Francine Vaillancourt, who was present throughout the day, for her continued support and commitment to the event. Finally, a special thank you to Pierre-André Kayembe-Mwaka for his close work with the schools in preparing the choreographies, contributing to performances that students can be truly proud of.

For 21 years, Folie furieuse has showcased Francophone culture in our schools and highlighted the importance of arts education as a driver of engagement and success. After 21 years of excitement, music and dance continue to unite and inspire our youth.
