Long live “Folie-furieuse”!

More than 330 grade 5 and 6 students from Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord schools put their knowledge to work at the “Folie-Furieuse” cultural competition on Thursday, February 22 at École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier.

The event kicked off at 10 a.m. with a performance by the “Bilinguish Boys”, a trio of Sudbury-area singer-songwriters Stef Paquette, Dayv Poulin and Édouard Landry, followed by a series of games. Students took part in a musical quiz and a synchro-labiale demonstration, showcasing their knowledge of francophone
songwriters and songs, and each school presented its own synchro-labiale number based on ten (10) francophone songs studied.

As part of this activity, the schools received support from Janie Pinard, a Sudbury-based francophone artist who draws inspiration from movement and physical play to create and perform. Janie Pinard, a creator, performer and lover of movement and physical play, is the featured choreographer. As part of the dance-
comedy duo Les Bunheads, the duo has performed in over six countries and appeared on such famous shows as America’s Got Talent, La France a un Incroyable Talent, Just For Laughs, and the NY Clown Theatre Festival. Janie also devotes her time as a dance teacher for community centers in Toronto and as
an animator for the Quebec Drama Association in Montreal.

The “Blilinguish Boys” also acted as judges and were responsible for choosing the winning schools for synchronization-labiale and awarding “coups de coeur” based on the students’ strengths and talents.

Recognized for its keen sense of innovation and openness to the world, Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord offers a French-language public education of the highest quality in fifteen elementary schools and eight secondary schools in the communities of Markstay, Noëlville, Greater Sudbury, Blind River, Elliot Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, Dubreuilville, Marathon, Manitouwadge, Longlac and Thunder Bay.
