École de la Rivière-des-Français and Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord Launch New Hockey Sport-Études Program!
Noëlville, September 28, 2026– This is a milestone moment for École de la Rivière-des-Français as its student-athletes, the Muskies, hit the ice for the very first time last week to mark the official launch of their new Hockey Sport-Études program.
Offered to students in Grades 7 through 11, the program aims to provide an exceptional opportunity for young local athletes, allowing them to balance academic excellence with on-ice skill development. Grade 12 students are invited to demonstrate leadership by getting involved through co-op placements or volunteer opportunities.
Designed to integrate seamlessly into the Ontario curriculum, the program features a tailored schedule that combines specialized on-ice training with an academic component focused on physical education and learning strategies. Students develop their individual skills and game tactics while receiving the comprehensive support required for their academic success.
Participation remains conditional on adhering to a rigorous commitment contract centered on academic success, attendance, and exemplary behavior.
To keep the program accessible and minimize costs for families, the Municipality of French River and the Noëlville Community Centre are providing free ice time. No bus transportation is required to reach the arena, and school staff members volunteer to transport the equipment. The initiative also relies on local partners, including KD Apparel, which is supplying the new practice jerseys.
“The results of such a program aren’t just measured by the goals scored, but by the discipline and perseverance that students acquire and carry over into all their achievements,” stated Christian Giroux, School Principal.
As the program is in its initial stages, École de la Rivière-des-Français is taking steps to obtain accreditation with the Hockey Canada Skills Academy.
