Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord Appoints Two New School Trustees

Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario (CSPGNO) approved the appointment of two school trustees, Ms. Amelie Hien for the City of Greater Sudbury (wards 1 and 4) and Mr. Jocelyn Bourgoin for Marathon and Manitouwadge.

Ms. Hien has been involved in the field of education for over fifteen years and has always worked to promote the French language and Francophone cultures through teaching, research and socio-cultural activities. Ms. Hien holds a doctorate in linguistics from the Université de Montréal. She taught linguistics and French at Laurentian University for many years, where she also served as Chair of the Department of French Studies from 2019 to 2021. She remains a professor emeritus in the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Laurentian University. At the community level, she is involved in numerous committees, such as the Coalition nord-ontarienne pour une université de langue française and the Comité triculturel pour l’éducation universitaire à Sudbury. In 2020, Ms. Hien was awarded the distinction of Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite de l’Administration et du Travail with Agrafe Diplomatie (Burkina Faso) and was also named one of the “25 Étoiles du Nord”, a merit given to Franco-Ontarians who inspire through their work, their volunteerism and their passion for Franco-Ontarian heritage.

Mr. Bourgoin has over forty years of progressive administrative experience in the health care sector, with significant involvement in municipal, educational, forestry and other groups. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Bourgoin served as Chairman of the Board (CEO) of Manitouwadge Health, a primary integrated health care delivery organization that includes a hospital, long-term care home, family health team, physician’s office, home care services, Meals on Wheels, transportation services, diabetes program and public health promotion services. From 2020 to 2021, Mr. Bourgoin returned as Acting Director of Community Programs and Services for Manitouwadge Health and then retired. Over the years, Mr. Bourgoin has served on various community committees. Currently, he is the Chair of the Northern Superior Counseling Programs. In 2018, he received the North West LHIN Leadership Award for his exceptional approach to collaboration and partnership, and in 2001 he was the recipient of the Governor General’s Medal for Exemplary Emergency Medical Services.
