Students will have the opportunity to explore growing efforts to recognize Indigenous peoples and create their own land recognitions at the Lac Laurentien Conservation Area.

Concerts with Andrina Turenne:
A series of concerts with Franco-Manitoban/Red River Métis, artist Andrina Turenne will visit CS Grand Nord schools on June 11 and 12. Juno Award winner Andrina Turenne has just released her first album in French, Je suis un arbre.

Concert with Richard Meilleur and Sharon Gauthier:
Another concert with Richard Meilleur and Sharon Gauthier will be offered. The performance includes teachings and traditional drumming, providing a rich cultural experience for all participating students.

Native literature showcase:
A large selection of literature has been purchased to showcase authors and illustrators in each of the school libraries. Further selections will be sent out in the fall, and all schools are invited to create a space dedicated to this selection in their libraries. A competition has also been launched to highlight the presence of Indigenous literature in libraries.

Indigenous education website:
The Board has launched an Indigenous Education website for teachers. This resource is continually updated to provide the latest information and teaching materials.

Cultural posters for classrooms:
A selection of cultural posters was offered to classrooms, enriching the learning environment with diverse cultural representations.

These many initiatives aim to honor and celebrate Indigenous cultures, educate students and staff, and promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of their histories and contributions.
