New Principal for École publique de Thunder Bay

Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario (CSPGNO) has appointed Ms. Oye-Sem Won to the position of Principal of the 1st French-language public school in Thunder Bay.

The Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord recently announced the opening of an elementary school in Thunder Bay. This school will offer programs for students from Junior-kindergarten to Grade 8 starting September 2023.

Ms. Won has a Bachelor of Education at Lakehead University with a major in Religious Studies and Mathematics. Ms. Won brings a solid background in education with more than 15 years in the school system. She has held the positions of teacher, educational consultant and vice-principal.

Ms. Won is very involved not only in her professional career, but also in her community as a volunteer for several curling events and as an international judge for the World Virtual Robotics Competition (WRO 2020). She has also served on various school committees, including the positive school climate committee, the success committee, the grade 12 graduation committee, the parent council as well as the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) committee.

Thanks to her wealth of experience, her community network and her leadership, the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord is convinced that she will be an outstanding leader for the founding staff members of École publique de Thunder Bay.

As the founding principal of this new school, she will build links with the community, help oversee the renovations, implement academic programming and recruit personnel. As a citizen of Thunder Bay for many years, she will take her role of regional ambassador to heart. Ms. Won begins her new duties at the beginning of February.
